Heritage Means Getting Back to Your Roots

Sometimes brides and grooms who wed come from different ethnicities and cultures . But that does not mean they can't celebrate their roots or reaffirm their cultural backgrounds . For example, a Chinese bride may wed an Indian groom. Instead of a Saree, to reconnect with her cultural roots, the bride may want to wear a traditional cheongsam for her wedding although her husband may be Indian.

Or an Indian bride weds a Scottish man, and he may want to add a family tartan to his outfit during the wedding ceremony.

Similarly, an English man takes on a Malay bride. Instead of wearing a suit, he may even want to don a Baju Melayu for the ceremony. Either way, as long as one or the other is comfortable with adorning traditional attire, a wedding is a way of getting back to your roots.

Heritage Inspired Wedding Photo

This wedding photo oozes with sweet charm. Shot in Penang, the photo was captured at a wooden window verandah of a heritage architectural site. The splash of purple colour from the bride's beautiful cheongsam and her well-coifed hair somewhat epitomised the 50s heydays of the Chinese by gone era. We love how the wedding photographer has cleverly imbued such classic romantic feel in his work!

Heritage buildings, though old, have always been great landmarks with many restored buildings having accents of lofty ceilings, red brick facades, intricate art deco, or gilded carvings and stonework. Blending the East and West Heritage in a Wedding

When couples get married, culture and heritage may not always be in sync. As global boundaries continue to blur, cross cultural marriages are increasing in numbers. So if you find yourself planning for a cross cultural marriage, the question to ask is where would the wedding be? At your country? His country? Both countries? (Which can be a costly affair!) Here's an idea we would like to share. Choose one neutral destination where both, his and your families can come together to celebrate the joyful occassion.

There are many of destinations where weddings can be celebrated! And remember, a destination can also be a holiday treat for family and friends as well.

We love the pictures below. They're inspiring! The destination wedding, held in Phuket was planned by the couple who are of different cultural and heritage background.

To blend the East and West heritage, the simplicity of the Western culture was incorporated into the reception decor.

The Eastern culture however, can clearly be seen by the presence of monks in saffron coloured robes to solemnise and bless the couple and the practise of releasing brightly lit wishing lanterns into the night sky! Beautiful!

Do you have a destination wedding in plan? Don't forget to allow plenty of time to select the right wedding dress that is suitable for your wedding locale. Although most destination wedding dresses tend to be less formal, you can still opt for something more traditional. But do take into consideration such things as the right materials, veils, trains and length of dress that are to be incorporated. Plus, don't forget, your bridesmaids would also need the right dresses for the occassion. But that's another story....
